Over 3,200 boys participated in NY Metropolitan District Regionals this year.
Every age group grew in size from 2003 to 2004.
We sent a record number of teams to AAU National Championships this year.
Due, in large part, to the increased participation in Regionals, the registration for Boys Basketball increased 15 %.
There were a minimal number of protests upheld due to age eligibility (a total of two).
Long Island Lightning entered the highest number of teams (97) in the Regional Qualifier.
Long Island Lightning had the most teams (11) that played in the Regional Championships.
New York Gauchos had the most Division I finalists (4).
Team Next had all three of its teams entered in their respective finals.
Westchester Hawks also had four finalists.

We would like to congratulate all of the clubs and athletes that participated in this years AAU Boys’ Basketball season. We also thank everyone who helped to make this a successful year.

Sincerely,
Cecil Watkins, AAU Boys’ Basketball District Sports Director

06/02/2004 – Urgent Update re: INSURANCE Liability, Accident and AB Coverage
DATE: June 2nd 2004
TO: Metropolitan AAU Club Directors
FROM: NY Metropolitan Association Executive Board
SUBJECT: INSURANCE Liability, Accident and AB Coverage

Based on recent events this memo is being sent to inform all Club Directors and Coaches that should you enter a non-sanctioned event hosted by an AAU registered club, even if you have AB coverage as AAU members, you are NOT covered as coaches and club directors under the AAU Liability policy.

Also, if you are a registered AAU Club hosting a non-sanctioned tournament you and your athletes are NOT covered by Liability, Participant Accident or by AB insurance from the AAU.

If you are hosting an event not sanctioned by AAU you are not permitted to advertise it to be an AAU event.

We strongly recommend that should you enter a non AAU sanctioned event that you obtain proof of insurance from the hosting organization. Otherwise you play at your own risk.

Keep in mind that AAU Clubs or organizations that do not sanction events also run the risk of not being accepted as a club member or having their membership revoked in AAU.

Please read the AAU Insurance flyer which can be obtained at www.aausports.org.
